But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord. A double minded man [is] unstable in all his ways. James 1:6-8
It was during the Battle of Bull Run that General Thomas Jackson assumed his nickname. Amidst the tumult of battle, Brigadier-General Barnard E. Bee stated, "There is Jackson standing like a stone wall."
Great leaders are great because they believe in something bigger than themselves. A cause, a mission, or perhaps people motivate them to greater heights of accomplishment. Bottom line is that they look beyond themselves and allow nothing to distract them.
Christians should operate in like manner. Our faith, hope and trust are in Jesus Christ, the sinless Son of God. We operate in the greatest power in all creation, the power of the Holy Spirit. We have The Book that provides absolute truth and direction for all of life and eternity. When you think about it, Christians should be the greatest leaders, followers, workers, employers, and citizens on the face of the earth. The greatest movements and organizations in history began under Christian thought and leadership (marriage, the legal system, hospitals, the fight to end slavery, schools, colleges and universities, etc.).
Today godlessness has hijacked the vast majority of these systems and institutions and corrupted them beyond measure. Christians, who were once bold and strong, are now consumed with worldliness and man-made philosophies. We waver like the waves, we are double-minded and unstable in all our ways, and will receive nothing from the Lord. Time for a change? Time to take a stand? It will cost you, but in God’s economy it’s worth it and He guarantees it!
