Six Things that Will Change Your World

It was recently stated that the world has experienced 10 years of change in the last two years. COVID-19 and the politization of medicine, societal unrest, the forcing and flaunting of sexual perversions and immorality, political and election corruption, and a host of other issues since the beginning of 2020 have deepened the darkness in our nation and the world.

The world is a mess. The United States of America is mess. Our states are a mess. Our counties are a mess. Our cities are a mess. Our neighborhoods are a mess. Our churches are a mess. Our families are a mess. The root cause can be traced all the way back to the Garden of Eden and sin.  Sin has the impact that it has today because Adam failed his family and ignited a chain reaction that impacts everyone—the whole world!

Men—we are not part of the problem. We are the problem. We have stopped being what God created us to be.  We don’t have to venture far into Genesis to understand God’s original plan for man and it was a glorious plan.  But men, we have failed.  We are nowhere to found. The feminization of our culture pushes men into the dark closet of feebleness and fragility.  We are satisfied to turn strength and leadership over to women so that we can sit around, drink beer, watch football, laugh at crude jokes, and waste our lives away.

God had (and still has) big plans for man.  Again, we don’t have to travel very far into Genesis to read God’s plan for man. This plan is not popular in today’s world. God’s plan for our success angers many people. But we are not here to be popular. We are here to be godly and lead our families, our churches, our neighborhoods, our cities, our counties, our states, our nation, and our world. That’s our job!

I believe God gave Adam and men everywhere six very important areas of focus that when practiced, we all succeed.  These are the basics that every man needs.  These areas are critical to not only a man’s success, but to the world’s success.

Genesis 1-2 provides us with God’s original intent for mankind.  Life in the Garden. Life in paradise. Life walking with God for eternity. Life with no shame. Life with no guilt. Life with no sin. Life with no clothes. Life with one rule.  God’s plan for our success was simple. Perhaps too simple.

How in the world did we blow it?  Every day when I wake up and get dressed, I am reminded that the only reason I put my clothes on is because of sin.  What a sobering reminder.  I spend a large amount of money every year clothing myself and my family because Adam and Eve failed at such a simple plan (and so do we).

Let’s look at these six crucial areas in Genesis 2:15 – 17 that if followed will lead men and nations to great success.

15 Then the Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to tend and keep it. 16 And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, ‘Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; 17 but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.’

18 And the Lord God said, ‘It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him.’ 19 Out of the ground the Lord God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the air, and brought them to Adam to see what he would call them. And whatever Adam called each living creature, that was its name. 20 So Adam gave names to all cattle, to the birds of the air, and to every beast of the field. But for Adam there was not found a helper comparable to him.

Here they are. These won’t be popular with the corrupt world, but I am not here for popularity. I’m here for God’s glory and to experience success at the highest levels I can.

1.    Priority and Stability (v. 15). God made man first. God placed Adam in the Garden first. God gave Adam and home and a job long before He gave him a wife.  Men, we are not the priority because we are better. We are the priority because God says we are.  God used Adam to establish order, a home, a job, and stability for his future wife and family.  If you don’t have a home and a job, then you have no business with a woman. If you are not stable, then get stable before you ruin someone else’s life. If you are not ready to lead God’s way and establish yourself as the sacrificial priority in your home, then you’re not ready for success.

2.     Vision and Creativity (v. 15). God placed Adam in the Garden with two jobs. The first job was to tend the Garden, to cultivate it, or to dress it.  God placed Adam in paradise and told Adam to be creative. Use your imagination. Dream! Man wants to build, improve, remodel, and create. God designed us that way. When we fail to be creative, we lose our will to dream and dream big.  Men dream big dreams. God has a vision for your life and your world that’s bigger than you. Men don’t sit around while a woman takes care of them. They don’t waste their lives sitting in bars, getting high, or chasing women. Real men have big, God-given dreams and vision that they pursue.

3.     Responsibility and Courage (v. 15).  Not only was Adam told to tend the Garden, but he was told to keep it or protect it. God gave Adam an enormous responsibility. Protect this house!  Why? Because Satan was slithering around.  Paradise had a predator, and that predator is still slithering around your house and family too. Men are designed to protect—not cower. If you don’t protect, destruction is around the corner.

4.     Opportunity and Risk (v. 16). Merriam-Webster defines opportunity as a favorable juncture of circumstances or a good chance for advancement or progress.  God told Adam of the opportunity to enjoy every tree in the Garden except for one.  Adam had two great opportunities here. Enjoy the biggest buffet in history and demonstrate his love for God by obeying God’s one command.  Opportunity will often be accompanied by risk and even the temptation and the opportunity to do wrong. Successful men seize on opportunity, take risks, and make the right choices based on God’s Word.

5.     Companionship and Compatibility (v. 18).  Female companionship and compatibility are essential to a man’s success. Every man needs a wonderful and helpful wife.  Man was made to be compatible with a woman both naturally (sexually) and spiritually.  Sexual perversions and same-sex relationships were not and are not part of God’s plan for man. God made man for woman and woman for man. No one in their right mind can mistake God’s plan for man and woman compatibility and companionship.  Successful men don’t work alone. We have a godly woman by our side who is usually smarter, wiser, and tougher than we will ever be.

6.     Authority and Love (v. 19-20). Finally, God gave man authority.  God, the Creator of all things, tells man to name every living creature.  Not only did Adam name them, but in Genesis chapter 1 God gave man dominion or authority and stewardship over God’s creation. God expects man to rule over all that He made. That should be extremely humbling and strike fear in the heart of every man.  God is a God of love. God is defined by love. God’s authority given to man must be exercised in love—not dominance, not abuse, and not tyranny.  Love is a powerful weapon in the hands of a man who practices godly authority. That’s what success requires.

So, men, how are we doing? Are practicing these things?  It’s hard. The world and even those in the church will oppose these things. Preachers won’t preach these things.  Schools won’t teach these things. But if we want a better family, a better church, a better neighborhood, a better city, a better county, a better state, a better country, and a better world, you must practice these things. It takes courage to change the world.
